DESCRIPTION

This liquid suspension is a blend of three ingredients commonly used to relieve heartburn and indigestion:
Sodium Alginate: A natural seaweed extract that forms a gel-like barrier on top of stomach contents, preventing acid from refluxing back into the esophagus. This helps to provide a physical barrier against stomach acids and reduce symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux.
Sodium Bicarbonate: Also known as baking soda, this compound acts as a fast-acting antacid that neutralizes stomach acid, providing quick relief from acidity-related discomfort. It reacts with stomach acid to produce carbon dioxide, which can result in belching.
Calcium Carbonate: An ionic compound used as a calcium supplement or antacid. This ingredient neutralizes stomach acid and provides relief from heartburn, sour stomach, or acid indigestion.

Indications

• Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Used to alleviate symptoms like heartburn and acid regurgitation.


• Indigestion: Relieves symptoms associated with excess stomach acid.


• Heartburn: Provides quick relief from burning sensations in the chest caused by acid reflux.


• Hiatal Hernia: Helps manage symptoms related to the hernia, which often include acid reflux and indigestion.


• Esophagitis: Reduces inflammation and discomfort in the esophagus caused by acid irritation.

Mechanism

• Sodium Alginate: Forms a protective layer on the stomach contents, preventing reflux into the esophagus. It creates a physical barrier that can help to block acid and food from flowing back up into the esophagus.


• Sodium Bicarbonate: Acts as an antacid, neutralizing excess stomach acid. It works by reacting chemically to reduce acidity in the stomach, providing quick symptomatic relief.


• Calcium Carbonate: Also functions as an antacid, providing relief from acidity. It neutralizes gastric acid more slowly than sodium bicarbonate but offers a longer duration of action.

Drug Interactions

Antibiotics: Can decrease the effectiveness of certain antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones). Iron supplements: May reduce the absorption of iron. Levothyroxine: Can interfere with the absorption of thyroid medications. Other antacids: Avoid concurrent use of different antacids to prevent overuse. Consult a healthcare provider for a complete list of potential interactions.

Precautions

Consult a healthcare provider before use if you have kidney disease, high blood pressure, or a history of stomach ulcers. Avoid taking other medications within 2 hours of this product to prevent interactions. Use caution if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not use for more than 14 days without medical advice. Seek medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen.

Side Effects

Side effects are generally mild and may include:

• Constipation or diarrhea
• Nausea
• Bloating or gas
• Milk-alkali syndrome (rare, with very high or chronic use)
• Consult a doctor if you experience confusion, weakness, or unusual changes in urination.
• Belching or burping due to the release of carbon dioxide from the reaction between bicarbonate and stomach acid.

Contraindication

• Kidney disease
• Uncontrolled high blood pressure
• A history of stomach ulcers
• Pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Hypercalcemia: Excess calcium in the blood, as this product contains calcium carbonate.
• Sodium-restricted diet: As it contains sodium bicarbonate.
